SPECIAL NOTICE!!!!
Dear Jenkins Creek PTA Members
The Kent School District revealed that it is looking at closing a school next year. They announced that they have narrowed the list down to two schools, Jenkins Creek and Cedar Valley. More expected budget cuts and low enrollment are some of the top factors in choosing these two schools.
Closing Jenkins Creek or Cedar Valley will have a huge impact on our children. The district representative stated that if a school is closed, they are looking to move the closed school's entire student body to the other school. This means that if Jenkins Creek closes, all of our students would be moved to Cedar Valley, and if Cedar Valley closes, their students would move to Jenkins Creek. This will make the enrollment at the open school around 600 students, doubling the current enrollment. We do not want either school to close!
The most important thing we can do right now is get the word out!
There are several meetings you can attend. The more people that attend, the better!
- February 15th - KSD work session. This meeting is open to the public to listen/observe the study session. You will not be able to comment or give any input at this meeting, but it may help us understand what factors are being used to make decisions in this process.
- February 22nd - KSD Board Meeting. At this meeting KSD will present their study findings to the School Board. At this meeting the School Board will decide whether or not to move forward with a closure, based on the study finding. You will be able to comment at this meeting. Comments are made at the end of the meeting. The more people who comment, the better. The School Board needs to know how we feel about closing either school.
- March 28th - At this meeting the KSD can either move for no closures or finalize a decision to close a school. You will be able to comment at this meeting.
Thank you!
